Turning Windows Firewall off changes Network discovery File sharing on in AntiVirus, Firewalls and System Security. Apr 24, 2019  Under Windows Defender Firewall, switch the setting to Off. Turning off Windows Defender Firewall could make your device (and network, if you have one) more vulnerable to unauthorized access. If there's an app you need to use that's being blocked, you can allow it through the firewall, instead of turning the firewall off.

Firewall

After starting Windows and logging in, I receive a toast message stating that Windows Firewall is not running. When I attempt to turn on Windows firewall, I get the blue ring, which indicates the computer is doing something, but then, nothing happens.

Windows Defender provides the firewall. How do I get to the firewall logs that should be generated by Windows Defender, or are they not even generated? I have searched through event viewer, the Windows Defender firewall GUI, and google searches have been unsuccessful (they generally point to older versions of Windows not using Windows Defender)!

Clickingon the 'Turn Windows Firewall on or off' setting just brings the same screen up, and the same result occurs when clicking the 'Use recommended settings' button. Clicking on 'Advanced settings' brings up the following screen.I have no idea where to go from here. Any help or patches MS could provide would be helpful.I've had no viruses, and a clean install of Win 10 was performed. Hi Chad,Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.I would request you to run System File Checker tool.System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.Press Windows key + X and clickCommand Prompt (Admin)Type the following command and press Entersfc /scannowNote: Do not close this Command Prompt window until the verification is 100% complete. The scan results will be shown after this process is finished.Hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to reply in case you face any other issues with Windows in future. Regards, Niranjan Manjhi.

Thank you for the assistance Niranjan. I've included a screen capture of my SFC scan, below. In addition, I've attempted to manually start the firewall, which also failed.I have read tips for previous versions of Windows, which indicate a network setting could be at fault, but I have no idea what. I am hopeful thatwe are able to resolve this quickly, as I feel pretty vulnerable at this time. Here are some event log screen caps that may be helpful.Additionally, I just noticed that my Zune software will not launch as well. I've attempted a few of the fixes suggested in the forums, including deleting the ' ZuneStore.sdf' file, and reinstalling. It worked fine prior to mereceiving the firewall issues and I think they could be suffering from the same issue. A likely candidate for the issue is a problem with the Microsoft.NET Framework, but I am not sure I want to mess with that.

At least until I know what will work with Windows10, and whether or not I'm barking up the right tree. Update: 08/24:The underlying issue is there may be a 'Permissions' corruption in the registry which disables Windows Firewall. I got help from a 'Microsoft Support' tech using the 'Contact Support' app. I had to 'escalate' to a supervisor since the starting tech was atrainee?!!The technician used a remote connection to confirm my problem. The solution was to use a 3rd party windows repair tool to reset permissions.

Go figure.- Original Reply None of your proposed solutions worked.I have no 3rd party firewall installed. Windows Defender is current.I, too, await a solution.TIA. I'm not sure if the PM stuff is in regards to the WFirewall 'bug' documented in this thread; but I'd love some help if it is.Next step is the 'Contact Support' process.UPDATE:The underlying issue is there may be a 'Permissions' corruption in the registry which disables Windows Firewall. I had to 'escalate' to a supervisor since the starting tech wasa trainee?!!The technician used a remote connection to confirm my problem. The solution was to use a 3rd party windows repair tool to reset permissions. Go figure.Still WAITING for a perfect Windows! During upgrades CREATE RESTORE POINTS! I thought I documented it in my previous posts. I used the 'Contact Support' app from Start.

The entry-level respondent didn't have any clue, so. I politely asked for a supervisor. After a short wait I was asked for my phone so the 'supervisor' could call me. I'll call her the level 2. She called me within 5 minutes. I described the issue.

She asked permission to setup a remote desktop connection. I agreed and she gave me the link to the RDC to download.

She reviewed my situation, then downloaded, and ran, a program called Windows Repair AIO from Tweaking.com. After running AIO, particularly the 'permissions' element, my problem was resolved. Windows Firewall and, more importantly Windows Store started downloading and upgrading apps.I'll be honest. I may have gotten to the solution on my own - eventually; (I use Tweaking.com's other program, Registry Backup.)But, unless your very comfortable trying this 3rd party fix on your own, I recommend you start at Step 1.That a MS employee used a 3rd party method should make @Gabe Aul scratch his head some more.Still WAITING for a perfect Windows! During upgrades CREATE RESTORE POINTS! I tried the same scan - no help.I went into services and changed the Firewall from Automatic to Manual. Clicked on Apply and the Blue Ring appeared for several minutes.

Firewall Not Working On Windows 10

Hit the Start Service button and it failed. The Windows Event Log says; The Windows Firewall service terminated with the following service-specific error:The data is invalid. The Source was the Service Control Manager and the Event ID is 7024.It appears that not being able to turn on the Firewall is preventing Windows Package Updates and may be the cause of my Start menu not working, Windows Store disappearing, etc.Any help would be really appreciated.
