DCH, DCM, DCS, DES, DFB, DFE, DFW, DGE, DGL, DGS, DHD, DHN, DHP, DI, DIR, DIV, DKVM. How do I upgrade the firmware on my router?

Someone suggested installing a Dual Band Router which would prevent interferences and give good connection. After searching for about a week, I decided to opt for D-Link AC750 Dual Band Router, model DIR 803.The advantage of this Router is that it transmits two simultaneous radio signals 2.4 Ghz. And 5 Ghz.As a result one will get coverage in both the bands, provided one has clients (adapter within a gadget) for both. Most of the gadgets have adapters for 2.4 Ghz. But some newer models of laptop, Tablets, and others have 5 Ghz. These gadgets will also get added advantage of surfing the net through 5 Ghz.

Band is crowded and having problem in establishing a proper connection, the 5Ghz. Band will do it. Moreover it has the latest 802.11ac wireless technology. So besides A,B,G,and N you will get AC wireless which will be the standard in future.I purchased the product through E-Bay, and I was supplied a white coloured router.

The packing was as usual and nothing special. Besides the router, the box contained a charger, a one meter Ethernet cable, Warranty Papers, Quick installation guide (which is miserably insufficient), and a Card on which you may write down user name and password for future references. There was no CD.The “Quick Installation Guide” was so insufficient that one would have problem in installing the router.Fortunately, there was a PDF file named ‘Quick Installation Guide’ on D-link website. I had to download it. It was good with pictures and necessary instructions. D-Link should have supplied a printed copy of the same in the box. However, there was no problem in configuring the router, and it did not take much time.My configuration was all right in one go and I was connected automatically and directly to D-Link website. Then I tried wifi connection on my Smartphone, Tablet, Laptop, and Blu-ray player, first one by one and then simultaneously.

There was no problem and connection speeds were good. There was no latency. For the blue-ray player there was little disturbance, but that was, most probably, because the player was inside a Wooden cabinet where signals could not reach properly. When I tried connection on my tablet and smartphone, I could see only the 2.4 Ghz. SSID in the list of available WIFI networks. SSID was not showing. First I thought that there was something wrong in my configuration. But then I googled and found out that this SSID would show only if there was a 5Ghz.

When I tried on my HP laptop, the both 2.4 Ghz. SSIDs were showing. After using for about twenty, I just casually touched the router. I was surprised to notice that the under surface of the router was very hot. I switched off the router and tried to see if it occurred again. I don’t know where the problem.

I would have to contact D-Link soon. But the problem is that there after sales is so poor one would think twice before contacting them. I send a mail to customer care for a solution for 5Ghz. SSID not showing. Till date I haven’t received any reply. Thanks all of you for reading this review.PROS: Latest technology, Good coverage, reasonably priced.CONS: Poor installation documentation supplied, becomes hot after using it for some time, customer support not so good.

What is the risk of not fixing this problem?Unfortunately, disclosing a vulnerability to the public also provides an alert to hackers that there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of vulnerable routers out there. You might feel that even if your router has a known vulnerability, it's okay because 'How are they ever going to find me?'
